It’s Thursday October 1st when I arrive in Bonn. On the early morning of Friday 2nd finally the big event begins with the Press Conference. RingCon is not a simple convention, but is the biggest fantasy convention in Europe. It began in 2002, being focused mainly on the Lord of the Rings; with time passing by it began to include another big success such as Harry Potter and Blood Ties, now it couldn’t obviously ignore the hype around Twilight.

Kellan Lutz, Ashley Green and Edi Gathegi were the guest invited at the beginning; for shooting reasons Kellan and Ashley had to renounce their visit to Europe, and were substituted much to our happiness by Daniel Cudmore (Felix, for those very few ones that still don’t know), Christian Serratos (Angela, Bella’s friend) and Alex Meraz (Paul, our member of the wolfpack).
RingCon lasted 3 days, all full of events for fans. On Friday there has been the Press Conference ( you can read a summary of what has been asked and answered here )in the morning, then several discussion areas with Tolkien, Harry Potter and Vampire Experts talking about Comics, popularity and rivalry between genres, and some questions on the power and morality of Vampire world, there have been also panels where fans could ask questions to actors and the world premiere of Born of Hope , a Lord of the Ring fan film.

Born of Hope castI saw it and have to say it really is a masterpiece, it’s incredible to see the enthusiasm, love, time and passion all these people have put in to realize such an incredible movie. It’s going to be released on December 1st on the internet, so when the date arrives I really suggest you to give it a look. Even if you are not a LOTR fan it’s worth your time, here you can see their trailer.
On Friday, the most important event was obviously the Opening Ceremony that this year has been followed by the Vampire Ball, where also Bobby Long (our beloved coauthor with Marcus Foster of Let Me Sign, you can see a funny vid here) performed a small concert (you can see a couple of vids here and here), followed by Disco dancing.

On the following days, there have been Photo-ops sessions and Autograph sessions with the actors, an interview with the German voices of Bella, Edward and Jacob for Twilight and New Moon movie, and other panels, each dedicated to different actors. There have ben also workshops, as Bow lessons, Vampire makeup, Acting lessons, and a lot of fansite encounters. There has also been also another European Premiere; they have shown the first episode of Vampire Diaries (have seen it and in my opinion it is going to be interesting, even if it is pretty evident that they took some inspiration from the Twilight movie scenography). On Saturday there has been a Cosplay contest, and during the whole Convention you could see walking around Elves, Hobbits, Orcs, a Ghoul trained by a Vampire, Volturi’s wives, Griffindor’s and Slytherin’s students, there were also Rosalie and Alice, but I think that one of the best costume has been the 3 Dracula’s wives from Van Helsing. You could also find stands selling mead liquor, and blood putty or Scarecrow fangs.

During a small break in the Autograph session I got a chance to talk to Kyle Schmid and he was so nice as to record a greeting to all vampire fans, you can see the video here, Daniel Cudmore instead signed my WonderPat teez as you can see here. During their panels Edi Gathegi and Daniel Cudmore have been extremely available to all fans and their questions, and among their answers they kept joking and taking fun of each other.
So if you want to know my final opinion about the RinCon 2009: it was worth going, and I will sure go back next year, hoping that there will be a little more vampires and English in it. All pics taken during the Con will soon be uploaded on our Gallery.
